Louis Scafetta "Grizz" was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend who passed away too soon on July 3rd, 2024.
He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt, fish, and garden. His happy place was outside with nature and he had a passion for sharing that pleasure with others as well. In today’s society, young people aren’t often encouraged to spend time outside, connect with nature, and pursue environmental fields.
The Louis “Grizz” Scafetta Scholarship was established to honor the life and legacy of Louis Scafetta by supporting students who share his deep appreciation for nature and wildlife. The scholarship is intended for students who are passionate about protecting natural environments, studying wildlife, and contributing to the conservation of ecosystems. It provides an opportunity for students to pursue their academic goals while continuing the values of environmental awareness and appreciation for the natural world associated with Louis Scafetta.
Eligible applicants include high school seniors and current undergraduate students in New York who are pursuing studies in forestry, conservation, wildlife biology, or environmental sciences. If your academic program falls within one of these fields and you have an interest in nature, wildlife, or environmental protection, you may be eligible to apply. Students should carefully review the scholarship requirements and ensure that their academic program meets the specified field of study before submitting an application.
Students pursuing healthcare programs or science-related courses that are not connected to forestry, conservation, wildlife biology, or environmental sciences are not eligible for this scholarship.
